H.O.P.I.N.G
Lance & I went to our first meeting with a parent support group called H.O.P.I.N.G (Helping Other Parents In Normal Grieving). The support group is for parents who have lost a baby (whether through miscarriage, still birth, or through situations like ours). The group meets on the first Saturday of every month. We met another couple & 2 women at today’s meeting. It was comforting to be around people who really understand what we’re going through. Sometimes it’s hard for us to share our feelings with other people . . . it was nice to be able to talk story with others who are grieving just like we are. Although the session was very helpful, the reason for us being there was a painful reminder of what we’ve lost . . . this is definitely a “club” that we don’t want to be members of.

Kim & Lance…
I’m so glad that you guys went to the HOPING support group. Everyone’s situation is unique…and in talking to you, I think you guys are so challenged with dealing with your grief cause you folks were blessed to have a relationship with Logan, unlike some of the other parents…I know you are grateful for the two months that Logan was with you…but that makes the physical departure even more difficult. I know you guys are having a hard time…You know we are always here for you both…I know it’s hard to express to us sometimes what you are feeling…and I know it’s even harder as the weeks go by cause it seems that everyone else is “getting back to normal” but what is normal for you? I don’t want to say time will make it better…cause it doesn’t take away the pain…but your coping skills will kick in…and you are reaching to learn more coping skills with this group…Hang in there….we love you guys so much…XOXOXO

Hi Kim and Lance,
I’m glad that you found a support group to help you through this time. I hope being able to express your feelings with other parents who are grieving will give you some comfort. I think about Logan a lot and know that he is watching over both of you. Sometimes when you think your world is crashing down around you, something wonderful emerges. That’s how I think of Micah. We will always think of him as a gift from my dad. I don’t know if you remember but like you, I was struggling with infertility. I had lost two babies and was getting pretty close to having to make a decision about in vitro. The week dad died, I was supposed to go in for a procedure. I remember telling my doctor I had to cancel and he told me I wouldn’t be able to resume treatment until September. By the time I went back to Dr. Chun, I was pregnant with Micah — no drugs, no medical intervention, nothing. That’s why Micah’s Hawaiian name is Kaleimakana (the child that is a gift). Barry and I truly believe that Micah was my dad’s gift not only to us but to my mom as well. I know it’s hard but you have to keep the faith! We’re all here for you and our love and prayers are with you everyday.
